Question:
Any way to stop the period from coming before surgery?
With the luck that I have I'll be getting my period the day before surgery on june 11th, is there anyway to stop it??!! I will be on my own after the surgery and will be very uncomfortable.Thank Monica J. — Monica J. (posted on April 26, 2001)

Believe me, I KNOW this seems like a huge issue to you right now, but TRUST
me, when you come out of the OR, your period or lack there of, will be the
LAST thing on your mind.
I had a D&C and tubal during my WLS, and I promise you..... your tummy
will take your mind off of much else going on. And remember if all else
fails..... morphine is a wonderful thing. :-) Good luck!

Monica, I know just what you mean. Like Barb said, I wasn't even due for
mine for 2 weeks, but the deep anesthesia brought it on when I got home
from the hospital (5 days after the surgery). I was like "what next,
just what I needed". I was already at the point, at 387 pounds, where
I couldn't even reach anymore to insert the old tamporooni, LOL. Never
mind right after the surgery when there was no way I could lift my gut out
of the way. But Barb is right. You deal with it. I just used pads
instead of the tampons, and dealt with it. I kept a hospital bed pad on
the sofa (you know the type that don't leak through, so you don't stain the
sheets?) on the sofa, just in case I might leak so I wouldn't stain the
sofa. And I managed. And the next month when I got my period, I could
reach again to insert the tampon! Skinny chicks could never understand
what it meant to me when I couldn't reach my own you know what, nor what it
meant to me the day I could reach it again! LOL!!! You will deal with it.
God bless you. --Janice Drew

My period was not due for 2 weeks and just my luck I was one of
the ones who started their period in the Hospital
for some reason unbeknown to me this surgery brings on your
period..
It was really no big deal
bring lots of panties and pads
with all that is going on with your body this will be a small
problem...
you will be so medicated it won't matter..lol

I think you might be out of luck. I've been on Depo-Provera for several
years, and hadn't had a period in about that long...but by gawrsh, the
surgery brought out the best in my hormones. I'm 9 weeks post-op and I'm
still having some very light, very occasional spotting. But I got a full-on
period the day after surgery, which I was absolutely NOT expecting. I've
heard this is normal.
<p>Wish I had better news for you. Maybe you'll be the exception! But
I'd plan on dragging along some pads anyway, just in case.

Thank you, Suzanne B. I was going to reply that Depo is a good way to go
because I, too, have not had a period in over two years thanks to the shot.
Based on Suzanne's experience, I guess I'll take some pads to the hospital
when it's time for my surgery! I guess nothing is 100%, but I still think
Depo works really well. I never even spot.
