Question:
I have been getting dizzy spells.

I am 9 months post-op from an open rny. I have lost 100lbs and am at goal weight. I have been getting dizzy spells in the afternoon once or twice a week now for the past few weeks. I guess it feels like I am buzzed (with no alchol involved) I am not pregnant. And I just had bloodwork done and everything came back normal. I have been eating ok too, it is not from lack of nutrition. Has anybody else experienced this or know what could cause it. Thank you for your help    — Paula G. (posted on April 4, 2001)

In the afternoon? Hmm. How soon after eating lunch? Do you remember what you had to eat on those days?

I just spent some time researching dizziness...boy, are there a lot of different causes! I found a website http://www.drhoffman.com that had a Q&A section. It's sort of hard to navigate but did provide some basic information. The possible causes are low blood pressure from getting up too quickly, inner ear infections, hypoglycemia, medication interactions, stroke & heart problems. Now DON'T go thinking the worst! If you go to that web page there's a sort of checklist of questions that your doctor might ask you to help diagnose the problem. Might not hurt to check it out and if you feel like you need to see your doctor you'll already have some answers for him/her.

For me it was a sign that I had to reduce my blood pressure meds. With heavy exercise my blood pressure declined from 148/80 to 104/54. This caused dizzyness when getting up. My body has adjusred over the last 2 months and I consider the dizzyness as a sign of better overall health. It is very unpleasant though.
