Question:
Every time I eat or drink I need to burp and can not? What is going on?
I am three and a half weeks post-op. Every time I take a sip of water, or eat anything, it feels like I have to burp and I can not. Then I sit there for an hour trying to burp so I can get my fluids down or my pureed food. Yesterday the problem was so bad I only ate two ounce of cottage cheese. On Thursday I tried to eat a scrambled egg and edded up throwing it up because it felt stuck in the back of my throat and then I burp. Too much gas. Is this serious? What should I do. I feel great other than this. Also, my intake of food or water is never more than an ouce every five minutes. — medusa D. (posted on March 3, 2001)

You are not drinking while eating, right? Perhaps 2 oz is too much in your
1 oz pouch? I couldn't eat a whole egg til about 9 months out. You could
have a tightening of your outlet, but you might try a tsp of cottage
cheese, then lie on your left side for about 3 minutes (yes, all the way ON
your side, not sorta tilted) and see if that brings up a burp. Your pouch
could be a bit swollen still and therefore kind of tilted. After my
revision (1/2000), I had trouble burping, whereas with my first surgery, I
burped constantly! (Which was far preferable!) So, after revision, I had
to eat a bite, left side, then eat a bite, left side. Since I was breaking
in a new pouch anwyay, 3 bites was about it. But by sort of retraining it,
it burps on schedule now. If it gets worse, please see your doc on Monday,
OK? And if water isn't going through, call him over the weekend.

Sounds normal to me! I did the same thing. It's really maddening , but it
will stop in time. How much time? I was about 3-4 mo. post when the
"air lock" lifted! hang in there.

I had some what the same problem. It is the fact that your upper stomach
produces
mucous and it fills you up after eating anything. It will subside after a
while.
I know it feels like you have to burp but it is just an extremely full
feeling.
mine has about stopped except for the rare occasion. You will just have to
put up with it for a while, it does go away.
