Question:
Problems with loose stools post op?
I am 3 months post op today and have lost 46 lbs so far. My only concern is that I seem to have very loose stools more frequently then not. I am worried that this will be a permanent problem. Has anyone had this problem and has it diminished or disappered all together eventually. — Heather P. (posted on February 28, 2001)

from what i read, RNY patient tends to be constipated and BPD/DS patient
tend to have loose and stinky stool for the rest of their life and this
sittuation is even worse when the patient eats lots of fat. hope this helps

Hi Heather,
whenever I drink milk products it goes right thru me....so I abstain. I
only use milk when I'm constipated now :-) Best wishes~

I had an rny with gall bladder removal 101/2 months ago & mine are
still loose most of the time. I have a thin friend who had her gall bladder
removed & she said she experienced the same thing as me & that it
lasted a little over a year. So I'm wondering if my situation is due more
to the gall bladder removal than the rny.

I am only 2 weeks post-op and I asked my dr the same question...and she
mention that it is possible that i was having too much sugar...I was having
juice per the post op diet but I needed to dilute it and so far so good...

I had my gallbladder out almost 2 years before I had my RNY surgery. The
first year after gallbladder surgery, I would have extremely loose ones,
and sometimes barely make it to the bathroom in time. Then it got better
after about a year or so. Then when I had the RNY surgery, same thing:
barely making it to the bathroom, and completely unpredictable when
something was going to happen. I am nearly a year out from WLS surgery and
things are finally getting better. I also noticed that the times I forget
to take my iron supplements, it gets worse. Too much sugar will 100% make
me sick the next day with diarrhea and/or gas. As long as I stick to the
plan and not forget that I am and always will be a RNY patient, everything
is fine now. Great weight loss, by the way. Keep up your good work!
