Question:
I wake up in the middle of the night in pain.......
I wake up in the middle of the night and I have what I call hollow stomach feeling. I get up and have a couple of crackers and some sugar free juice and the pain goes away. I am 4 months post op from an open rny I have lost 65 lbs and have been on a plateau for the last 2 1/2 weeks. That is about the time this started. My question is why has this started all of the sudden? Do you think it is at all related to my plateau? What can I do to get rid of it? And have any of you gone through this? Al, that is great advise but it is not a temptation to snack I am actually
in pain and cannot go back to sleep till I eat something. I actually am
not eating a lot of calories at night a couple of crackers and a sip or two
of juice.

Hi Paula,
I am still pre-op (surgery 12-21 yippeee) but I saw a question very
similar to yours on a message board somewhere else. There were several
responses and they all said the same thing. Everyone that experienced the
plateau started drinking the protein shakes again and it kick started their
metabolism. If your body is not getting enough protein then I believe it
goes into starvation mode and begins to metabolize much slower. It might
help you with the stomach pains too if you have a protein shake just before
bedtime, would fill you up and give
you a boost in your metabolism to get you off the plateau. Good luck! Keep
us updated.
