Question:
Does anyone know of things to do to assist in eliminating the fromation of gallstones
Had lap rny 10-02-00. Doing well and losing. Gallbladder was not removed, but I have heard that almost 90% of people who have wls will within 6 mo to a year lose their gallbladder. I do not wish to go through another surgery. I will try anything to prevent this. Any ideas? Help! — Teresa C. (posted on October 18, 2000)

After my surgery, Dr. Lirio immediately started us on Actigal.... this
medication helps prevent the forming of stones.

I think your statistics are a bit exaggerated. If your galbladder is
normal at the time of surgery, and it is left in, you have about a 20%
chance of losing it within three years of your WLS due to stones. So, it
is not uncommon, but not anywhere near 90% either. I got my numbers from
the alvarado clinic site.

Hi, I had the same procedure. My surgeon prescribes Actigall, he says it
greatly lowers the chances of those dreaded stones forming.
But, they are gargantuan capsules, so you have to open them and mix them
with something at least for a while, and they taste horrid. But.... better
than another surgery (that is what I tell myself twice a day). Good luck.
