Question:
What happens to the stomach acids and liquids in the stomach once you have surgery?
When they create a new pouch what happens to the fluids in the new and old stomach? Having surgery on 9-19-00 and I'm a little scared.(open rny). Thank you T. — T E. (posted on July 26, 2000)

The stomach acids remain in the lower stomach, still doing what they do.
Even if you are transected (divided), they will remain in that lower
stomach. Which is exactly where you want them. Not in the pouch!

According to my dr. the bile from liver still empties into the bottom
stomach. The stomach still makes its juices also and they leave the
stomach and meet up with the food etc from the pouch lower down, which is
why its called the roun Y, its like a y.
