Question:
Where do you lose hair?
If a person keeps up their intake of protein and vitamins, why would hair loss be expected? ALSO, if you do experience hair loss, is it only the hair on your head? Or can you lose hair everywhere? — Fran B. (posted on October 14, 1999)

I agree with Barb: Hair loss is probably due to the RAPID weight loss. I,
too, am very concerned about that. I saw my hair dresser yesterday and she
had me start NOW on Nioxin. I will continue to use it until after the
surgery and the hair loss has minimized. In the directions that came with
the Nioxin, one of the reasons given for hair loss was rapid weight loss
and I bet that is the common denominator. Good luck.

I was also concerned about hair loss and asked my surgeon Monday, 10/11 and
he said it is due to rapid weight loss and lack of protein, and is only
temporary. Once you replenish your protein, your hair would grow back!

After this type of surgery, I have found it very difficult to maintain the
needed amount of protein. Can only eat so much food in one day because of
small stomach and malabsorption from bypass. Not only did I lose hair from
head, but from underarms, arms, legs and pubic area! I'm celebrating my 3
year anniversery tomorrow and still don't have underarm hair or hair on
arms, legs and pubic area. Hair on top of head is better, but still thin.
