Question:
I received word my secondary insurance (BlueCross/Blue Shield of Kansas) has denied
my surgeon's reqest for WLS. My primary insurance is Medicare, as I am on disability. A letter, of course, was also sent to them. Haven't received a response, as of yet. It is my understanding that Medicare "cannot" pre-certify surgeries, etc. If that is the case, are they apt to deny or approve surgery later? Do you go ahead and have the surgery and hope for the best, or what? — Sandy C. (posted on October 7, 1999)

Sandy, that was exactly what I did! Went ahead with the surgery and prayed
a whole lot. If it is deemed medically necessary they will usually pay.
Make sure you get all the documentation you can possibly get from every Dr
you can get it from. Good Luck and God Bless!

appeal the denial decision with your secondary..Medicare will pay..no
problems..especially if it is primary..I have medicare and have already had
the surgery....the surgeon sent letters to both of my insurances and I was
approved in just days...stay after that secondary insurance.....
