Question:
Burned out on high protein?
I have tried the Atkins diet so many times that I'm burned out on protein. Is this going to hurt me when I have my RNY? Has anyone else had this problem? — samuel G. (posted on July 14, 1999)

if you are tired of eating meat you may want to try some vegetarian dishes.
Just be carefull, you have to learn how to combine incomplete proteins to
make a dish that is high in biological value proteins. Red beans and rice
is a perfect example. It is important that you get enough protein though or
else you may lose muscle mass which also includes your HEART.Muscle also
burns more kcals.proteien is also needed to help to promote wound healing.

Who told you you have to be on the Adkins Diet post op??? I would NEVER go
on the Adkins diet post op..I HAD this surgery so that i wouldn't HAVE to
diet ever again in my life..Every Diet in the world..the Adkins included
will let you lose weight..at first..but every single one of them also sets
you up to fail. I eat a Balanced diet now...sure..I push my protien
first..because it's important to get the protiens, because we get so few
calories..but no one will EVER make me abuse my body again with diets like
the Adkins....

Hi,
My name is Paula and I live in St.Pete, FL. I am on a "All Protein
Diet" at this time. I had my surgery 11 weeks ago, and I have lost 64
pounds. I have no problems with the all protein diet because I am never
hungry. I have to make myself eat now.
You may feel different about this diet after your operation. You need lots
of protein!
Sincerely,
Paula in St.Pete

Protein doesn't have to be gross! Really! When I did that grapefruit diet
in teh 70's, thought I'd never touch the stuff again. But I love it all
over again! Grapefruits! Who'd have guessed. Proteins change &
continue to improve daily. Some of us keep a finger on the pulse of the
protein world. My RNY is so radical that I will die without LOTS of high
quality protein. Love the stuff. Can't get enough. It keeps me thin, keeps
good muscle tone, keeps my skin tight and my hair on my head. And there
are so many choices, that I think you'll be FINE.

protein is very important after surgery in order for your body to heal,
also it is important to keep your hair from coming out. I bought soy
protein from the health food store and every morning I have a protein shake
for breakfast 1/3 cup has 24 grams of protein.

I am currently getting ready for WLS & I went on a high protein diet 2
years ago and lost almost ALL my hair! I don't think it is the protein
necessarily, just the lack of a balanced diet! I would rather DIE than go
back onto a protein only diet!
