Question:
can a person lose more weight then they should?

It is possible, but rarely happens. Our bodies usually stop where they are comfortable. Most WLS patients gain 5-10 pounds back. My surgeon wanted me to get down to 150 pounds, but I weigh 125 and am VERY happy and healthy.

I do have to agree with the previous post. I have lost around 180 pounds since my surgery. I had surgery on April 12, 2004. My weight at the time of surgery was 334. I am now down to 184. My goal weight was set at 225 by my surgeon. I had numerous health problems after surgery. I was readmitted for 12 days with an infection. I lost 176 of those pounds in the time frame from May of "04" to December of "04". Good News, my weight has finally stopped and has evened out. My surgeon said I lost the weight to quickyly.

my surgeon said i would be "lucky" to get to 140. he thought 150. I started at 228.6. Stopped for several months at 134 and was VERY happy. Then stopped drinking my shakes and started feeling really bad. i started losing again and lost down to 109. I looked guant, felt weak, tired all the time and just generally felt and looked bad. My dietician and surgeon were very worried and told me some things to do to gain my weight back. I struggled for months, gaioning and losing. Finally I started drinking my shakes again every day, still i struggled. Finally after several months, I have gained back up to 118-120. I seem to have stablized I hope. Still look guant but do not want to gain anymore weight altho they would like for me to gain ten more pounds.

My surgeon never set a goal for me, however, my primary care physician said around 126 would be a good place for me. Personally, I wanted to get to 120. At first I lost slowly and thought I would be lucky to make it to 140. Ha! Now I sit between 99 and 102. I've added 3 protein shakes a day to my routine, but so far I haven't gained anything. I also feel like I can eat like a pig compared to some others...but I do refrain from eating junk and sugar for the most part, so that might explain my loss and inability to gain. My eating preferences include lean protein like fish and leafy vegatables. I see people on here talking about how people try to deliberately lose down into size 2s. Believe me, my loss wasn't deliberate, I just simply sped right by those goals. I wouldn't mind gaining back 10-15 lbs, but I'm also scared about doing so...that I'll get to that goal and just speed right on by it the other way. Are we ever happy about our weight (sigh!)?
