Question:
I CAN'T HEAR: Has anyone experienced ears feeling blocked over a year post-op?

I couldnt believe it when I read your post. I had WLS 5/2/04 and in the
past two months I have been experiencing the EXACT same thing. It has been
driving me insane. It is not every day but most days my ears are
"blocked". It was only the right ear for the first two months
and just this week it happened in both ears. I feel fine, no cold or
anything. My ears just get plugged and everything kind of echos and I
cannot hear very well. I was wondering if was a barametric (sp?) pressure
thing or something. I have not even thought about it being related to my
surgery. I will have to make a doc appt. and see if they can figure it
out. What test is your doctor going to do in order to determine the
problem and if it is your eustachian tubes, what if the fix for that?
Thanks.

I had wls 5.4.2003 and I experienced the same thing. Only difference is
that the "blockage" and "sounds" I could hear
internally were more pronounced right after surgery and have lessened
significantly. That makes me think that it's not caused by fat melting. I
experienced the same thing right after plastics and, again, it lessened
over time. I still experience it a little bit occasionally but it's not a
constant thing. This is an interesting post. I've never heard anyone else
talk about it. Please keep us updated as you find information.

Sure sounds like it could be a sinus infection. Has that been ruled out?

Thank God I'm not the only one. I'm post op 4/4/03 and this happened and
still happens occasionally now. It drove me crazy !!! My regular doctor
told me it was eustachian tube something or other. It's rare now but once
in a while it comes and doesn't go away for a while.

I had been to the doctor several months with the same problem, well my
surgery was 8-22-01, and finally almost a year later after I had quit
losing and eating a little more normal it just went away, I could actually
hear my heart beating, my air being breathed in and out, and like I saidit
was like my fingers were in my ear while trying to talk, I promise it
will go away..I have a friend that used a comletely different surgeon and
she had the same problem, why in the world would it affect our ears is news
to me....But hang in there it will go away...
