I am just curious what do you consider a reasonable weight? How much have
you lost. I have several friends that have not been given good post op
instructions and diet instruction, but with the wealth of information on
the Internet they were able to work through that problem. Unfortunately
some surgeons do not have the level of post op care and support that they
should.

It is unfortunate when surgeons do not have good follow up and educational
care for post-ops. I think part of the problem is that our doctors are
surgeons and just that. They are used to operating and that is what they
have been schooled in. They are not nutritionists, or psychologists.
However, good bariatric surgeons have learned about aftercare, support
groups, and good nutrition, and have hired staff that are proficient in
these areas. I also have to ask the same as Gen C, what do you consider
reasonable? Many, many post-ops never achieve their goal weights, so you
have to ask if their original goal was reasonable? Also, after the first
year to 18 mo, it does become work to continue to lose. Its still a
calories game, so to continue to lose, take in less calories than what you
burn thru exercise. The committment to continue to lose is very important.
On a good note, while still work, its easier than when we were pre-ops. We
are lighter and can get by on less food...
