Question:
Have to have Hysterectomy and wondering if they have to place
NG tube via scope for this. Worried they will go thru pouch when placing it. Gyn said anesthesia is aware and will take care to be gentle but I am still worried. I go in next Wednesday for hyster and then Nov 1st for LBL. Can't wait to get the hyster over with and have no more pain. Wendy — Wendy H. (posted on October 6, 2004)

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy with the works due to cancer last
November. The only tube I had was a foley catheter for urine. (Not
including the normal iv and pca) No NG tube. Don't be afraid to ask your
surgeon if the tube will be in place just during the surgery or after or
even if you need it at all.

it is unlikely you would need an NG. The only intubation during most
surgeries is a breathing tube called an ET tube. It is always placed with a
scope and does not go anywhere near your stomach/pouch, only into your
trachea.

I had an emergency hysterectomy earlier this year in March. I made sure
that the anesthesiaologist(spell?) knew about my RNY little tummy. Instead
of putting a tube down me, they used the thing that goes over your mouth
and nose - to breath. I went to sleep and woke up with no problems! Good
luck! Danette

I had open RNY on May 28th. On August 31st, I had a hysterectomy. The
doctor suggested a spinal block instead of anthesia. It worked great. Just
something to think or maybe talk to your doctor about. Sharon
