Question:
Am I loosing to fast.
I will be five months post-op next week and down 101 ponds. Does any one think I am loosing to fast. Also ended up with ulcer and am on Carafate and since al food tastes awful. Hard to eat anything due to taste. Does this medication cause anyone else to have this problem. Thanks, Lap RNY 09/29/03 315/214 — john59501 (posted on February 23, 2004)

This is so different for everyone, but your loss does seem extremely fast.
But I don't know how fast is too fast? One of the problems that can occur
with any rapid weight loss, through surgery or not, is gall bladder
problems. Does your doctor have you taking Actigall or something like it
that is supposed to help this potential problem? Congrats on your success.
Sorry, i don't have any experience with the med you mentioned.

It is quick but men do seem to lose much faster than women. One of the men
from my support group lost 80+ pounds in his FIRST month alone!

I don't get weighed again until March 4th. I didn't buy a scale because I
know myself, and I know I would get obsessed with weighing. But, ANYWAY...
I had surgery on 10/13/03 and on 12/31/03 I was down 91 lbs. I'm happy
that I'm loosing fast... But again, I know myself, and when the weight loss
slows down, I'm gonna have to take extra incentives so I don't get
discouraged. I also started out 100 lbs heavier than you too. God Bless

I lost fast, see my profile its very detailed. Men loose fast, dont worry
about it a plateau is just around the corner, then you will be really
upset.

I was -106 lbs at about 5 months +3 weeks. It is fast, but I don't think
too fast. I was 306 at my start weight. So, we're pretty close.
As long as you're following the program, you should be fins. Keep up with
your water, protein and vitamins, don't miss you Dr's appointments, etc.
It WILL slow down, and probably sooner than you want it too.
Good luck to you.

Too fast? What's that mean? That reminds me of the song "I aint never
had too much fun!" I've lost 88 lbs since 11/12/2003. I started at
338, today I'm 250. I say get some new clothes and enjoy all the attention
your friends give you everytime they see you.

I lost 101 lbs at 5 months too. The lost continued at a good pace right up
until the end of the 9th month, then has just leveled off the 10th and 11th
months coming in for a nice soft landing at 154 total lbs lost and 1 lb to
go until goal. I wouldn't worry too much. I think you will find your rate
of lost adjusted itself as you approch your goal.

No, I do not believe that you are loosing too fast. My DH had open RNY the
day after you and he is down 99# so far. He was 208# over recommended
weight for his height. Are you sure that it is the medication that is
making foods taste bad to you, could it be ketosis instead? Just a thought.

As guys, we are fortunate in being able to lose weight fast. Averaging 20
pounds per month is not "too fast". I dropped 80 pounds the
first month and a little more than 150 pounds by the end of my third month
(with a total loss of 280 in 15 months). Given the frequency with which
you are probably having blood drawn and the regularity with which you must
be seeing your surgeon, any medical problems which be noted by now. Enjoy
the ride.

You are doing fine! I was told I lost too fast due to being a so called
"light weight" I lost 103# my first 6mo and it took the last 7mo
to get 30# to hit goal. They say the heavier you are the faster it comes of
and of course the lighter the slower and my Surgeon actually had to up my
intake to slow mine down and now I can't lose a pound for nothing. I have a
couple patients on the same medication and they seem to feel the same way
as far as food taste, but it does'nt surpress their appitite none. Good
luck and make sure you eat your protien!

John, I had open rny 9-30-03 314/215 was hoping to hit century mark dead on
for 5 month ann. I think you are doing fantastic. Men lose faster than
women, and i had worried maybe I was lozing too fast, but it has really
slowed down this past month. So take it anyway you can get it, with the
extra doctoring you do, you'd know if it was wrong. Besides, it it feels
good, do it!! Patricia
