Question:
I am having LAP-RNY, for you that have this, what do I need to bring to the hospital
that would have made your stay alittle better, I just want to be prepared and have my family prepared. One lady told me to take baby wipes for the diarrhea, and chap stick for dry lips after surgery...anything else anyone can think of! Thanks!! — Sarah J. (posted on October 25, 2003)

All I took was chapstick, couple pairs of underware, something lose to wear
home and an electronic hand held game. I could not focus enough to play the
game, but the rest of the stuff I used. Some people do say to bring tongs
to help you wipe, I am lucky I did not need those. I did not have a bowel
movement till ten days after surgery. Good luck! :)

Sarah, I brought a whole bag of stuff..books, tolietries, jammies, shorts
(to cover myself when walking the halls) socks and underwear. Here is what
I used.....Shorts!! That's it. You can wear comfy clothes to the
hospital, which can be the same ones you will wear home. My hospital had
all the tolietries I needed. I never even thought about the books.
Chapstick seems like a good idea although it was my mouth that was super
dry after surgery, not really my lips, and the nurse gave me this cool mint
flavored sponge to swab my mouth and lips with. Also they have vaseline if
you forget your chapstick. Good luck and wishes for a speedy recovery!

The things I REALLY used were... the flushable wipes, tongs (because you
can't really twist around to wipe yourself), slippers (the kind you can
just slide into without bending over), my own maxi pads (I spotted a little
for a couple days and the maxies the hospital provided are like the ones in
the 1950's), warm socks (I never had cold feet until the very day I had
this surgery) and last but not least was my clip on fan that I clipped to
the side rail of my hospital bed. I hope that helps.

Depends on how long you'll be in the hospital. Most lap-bands in CA go home
the same day. Bring a change of clothes in case, bring toiletries in case,
bring your pillow in case. Otherwise, you don't really care, you're
sleeping, and you can't wait to get home.

Hi, Sarah: I'll tell you what I actually USED in the hospital: My brush
and pick, my phone book, my hand lotion, my own soap, shampoo and
conditioner (I have sensitive skin and have to be careful what I use),
toothbrush & toothpaste, my own pillow, clean undies, a duster-type
gown to wear home, and lip balm. I didn't have a bm until I came home on
the 3rd day. The things listed were what I actually used.
<p>I overpacked, because I didn't need my robe (wasn't cold), didn't
need my slippers; they provided Ted hose and Slipper Socks, I didn't need
a fan; the room was cool enough and they have fans at the hospital I stayed
in.

I brought a lot of stuff to the hospital that I never used. What I needed
was my toothbrush, hairbrush, chapstick, clothes that I wore I also wore
home. I didn't really need much since the hospital provided it all. I do
know that your own towel for after you are allowed to shower would be
helpful otherwise you could need some help since theirs are really small!
That about it. 6/27/03 292/214/172
