Question:
At 6 weeks I'm throwing up about every other day... today I spit blood...

.... I'm having a hard time eating about 50% of the time. I really dread meals. The food goes down and feels so bad I throw it up. This evening, after throwing up, I had some blood in my spit. That can't be good. Anyone have a similar problem? Any advice? Help!    — terriny (posted on September 16, 2003)

I agree that you should call your doctor. I also wanted to let you know that I had this problem around the same time also. From week 5 to 10 I was throwing up at least once a day. I did not even want to eat. I just ate because I had to. I was also very nauseated. One time there was a tiny amount of blood in it, but I felt this was from irritation and never saw anymore. I lived on string cheese during this time as it was the only thing I could seem to keep down. The only problem with that is that it made me constipated. I am 2-1/2 mos. out now and it has gotten better. However, I still throw up approximately three times a week. I am not eating anything that I shouldn't, stick to protein, low carbs, low fat, very little sugar. However, I am finding that foods I could tolerate very early on are just not working now, for example, eggs. On the plus side, some things I could not eat earlier I can eat now, such as shrimp. My doctor told me this is normal, the not tolerating things you did previously, and that I just have to keep trying different foods and see what works. I could eat chicken very early on and now sometimes I can and others I cannot. It sure takes the fun out of eating! I definitely eat to live now instead of living to eat. If I could I would not eat at all, but that is not possible. I knew going in that it would be this way though, and that is what I wanted. I am definitely free from my bondage to food--that chain is broken. I have a friend who had the surgery nearly a year ago, and in discussing the surgery with her preop she told me that eating was no longer fun, it was a chore. That is definitely what it has become. Good luck and take care. It does get better with time.

doctor. asap. I had the same problem from about 2 weeks on and off. I had a stricture and needed a balloon dilation three times. The third time was after they also found an ulcer and that i was bleeding inside. The blood can also come from irritation of your throat from throwing up. Trust me once they fix it, your life gets much better. It's a quick endoscopy if you need it. Its common. Hang tough.
