Question:
Drinking after a snack
I know we are not supposed to drink after meals. But what about after a snack? I have two snacks daily usually cheese, beef jerky, or nuts. Should I avoid drinking afterwards, like I do with my meals? I am three months out and down 65 pounds. — natjemison (posted on August 18, 2003)

The purpose of not drinking before and after meals is to keep the food in
our pouch longer and not feel hungry again. The same rules apply to
snacks. The recent study showed that waiting to drink at least 45 minutes
after eating keeps the food in much longer.

I would apply the rule to whatever you ate. If the goal is to remain full
as long as possible, then drinking just washes the food (snack or meal)
out. At 3 mo post, thats not an issue yet as your not taking in the same
amount of calories you will at a year or more out,and you may not be
"hungry" yet, but its never too early to develop those good
habits now.
