Question:
It's constant (1 week post op) of sheer diarrhea
and she is still only on liquids. Has anyone else had this problem? She is getting no where with the Dr's office and she is taking zantac 150 and no solids! It's driving her crazy and she is pretty much to the point of sorry that she has this surgery. Can anyone help her with any info? I had that problem for 2 weeks and it stopped when I
quit drinking Crystal Lite. Believe it was the artificial
sweetners for me........

I had the same problem the entire time I was on liquids-only. My surgeon
said it would go away as soon as I started eating more solid food, and it
did (thank God!!). Nonetheless, it was very unpleasant, so I know how your
cousin feels. It will end--hang in there!

I asked the doc if I was having just diarrhea because I was just taking in
liquids and he said no - by the time food leaves your tummy it is supposed
to be liquid anyway so your intestines should be able to form BM from it.
There is a period of transition in the beginning - it took about 5-6 days
for my diarrhea to stop, and I had resorted to a little Pepto Bismol.
Turned my tongue black but seemed to help. This will pass.

My doctor had me take Imodium tablets--over the counter--for 48 hours,
starting with two tablets. If the diarrhea did not go away afte 48 hours,
I was to fill a prescription for flagyl. Fortunately, the Imodium worked
for me. As you can easily get dehydrated--and a really sore bottom (get
the flushable wipes for your tender tush)--go back to your MD or PCP and
get the diarrhea taken care of. It is not fun and totally avoidable.

This is all part of the healing process and its different for everyone.
Think how bad constipation would be after surgery would be!! Be more
aggressive with the DR. Good Lux
