Question:
Hi all, I will be 2 mos out on the 21st, down 48 lbs and holding and holding.
I eat mostly protein, I know my h20 has not been as high as it had been before, but I cannot seem to drop some weight. It has been slow for a few weeks now. Am beginning to get depressed over this. I start working out at Curves this week. My period should have been here (not pregnant) but my body is acting more like it is in mid cycle. My hands and feet are swollen. Oh please oh please, any advice??? I am going to drink tons of h20 today. I eat three meals a day, and really have not much of a desire to snack. — Kriola (posted on July 20, 2003)

The same thing happened to me at about 6 weeks post op. I lost 35 pounds
instantly and then the scale stopped moving! So the first thing I would
recommend, for your emotional well-being, is to stay off the scale. Your
weight can fluctuate by several pounds just during the course of one day.
When I weighed myself daily, all I did was get depressed. So I learned to
judge my weight loss by how my clothes fit and I put the scale in the
closet! Next, keep that water going! If you don't get enough fluids, your
body will retain them and you won't be able to flush the fat and any other
toxins out of your system. And dehydration is a bummer! It can cause your
major organs to shut down, so drink, drink, drink. Now that you are
getting exercise, that should help jump-start your metabolism too. And
make sure that you are getting ENOUGH protein. My weight loss came to a
grinding halt because I wasn't getting enough. When I added more, the
pounds started coming off again. Just keep plugging away and do all of the
things you know you're supposed to do and the weight will start coming off.
I know it's hard to be patient, but hang in there! Good luck!

Hi there!! Congrats on the weight loss!! I went through the same thing
starting at 2 months out as well, I found that I was retaining water before
my period and would drop 3lbs in a day after my period was done. It really
can be any number of things, but darlin the weight will come off, sounds
like you are doing all the right things, the previous poster is so right
about the scale thing, I had to have my husband hide mine! Be sure to tell
your surgeon at your next visit about your concerns and he/she will help
ease your mind.
I am now just 5 months out and the weight loss has slowed of course but I
am still losing every week and you will too. I know it's hard, but try
weighing every 2 weeks and you'll feel so much better about your weight
loss.
you're doing great, best wishes! Jana

Did you know that when you start an exercise program it is not uncommon for
it to mess with your monthly cycle. It will straighten itself out as it
adapts to the new regimen. I agree on getting in more fluids. Flush that
system out :>)
