Question:
Wonder how your over all experiance has been and did you have any complications?
I'm hoping for Open RNY sometime in July. The Wish Center here in Renton Wa. has been great so far. Since I am Private Pay, (Stupid Ins. Co.)I went there because they will finance it, plus seem to have very skilled Doctors. They are new to the area but have been in other States for many years. I would really like some feed back from some of the post-ops on how everything went for them, Pre-ops too, thanks guys — Joan R. (posted on May 28, 2003)

A good place to read about our experiences and etc is to go to the peers
page for any state and read a few profiles. Good luck

Hi Joan,
I had my open RNY on July 18th, 2002 and I had no complications to speak
of. The worst part for me was those stupid staples on the outside of my
stomach (24 of them). After two weeks those were removed and that felt
great. I never had alot of "internal" pain, just mild discomfort
and I could not sleep on my side or stomach (which in turn made my back
hurt) but it was worth it! My surgeon was wonderful and told me exactly
what to expect and I have no regrets at all. Good luck Joan !
Take Care

Hi i had lap rny on march 31, 2003 i was no so lucky as to have no
complications, after surgery i had 101 fever which kept me in the hospital
a few more days then expected. after getting home i noticed the drain by my
pouch was draining out the food/protien shakes i was drinking so i had to
go back to the hospital to have a gastric tube put into my old stomach so i
can eat through there. i could not even drink water for 2 weeks, THEN an
abcess formed on the right side of my belly and the pain wouldn't even
allow me to sit or lay down comfortably, along with fevers to mix, so that
needed to be drained. i felt like Tubeman with so much stuff coming out of
me. BUT i guess so far it had payed off, i've lost 100 pounds in 7 weeks,
granted i had a jumpstart but so far i'm not regreting it. now if i can
only eat something without throwing up lol!

I had Lap RNY 2/11/03 and I have done "Great" I have lost 60
pounds in 3 months and 43 inches. No complications, what so ever!
I walk 3 miles a day/do water aerobics 4 times a week/jump rope/bike riding
and lift weights for the arms.
My energy level is way up there! I'm off medications I was on before
surgery.
I honestly can say I feel so healthy and still have 40 pounds to go.
I'm no longer wanting to stay confined to the house......I'm working in
yard and always on the go!
I'm 53.... 5'4"/size 22/24 and was 250 morning of surgery/now weigh
189 and in 14/16.
Other than dumping 1 time on day 8 on Flintstone Vits (too sweet)I have
done marvelous. Didn't us morephine pump in hospital but once and had them
remove it.
Walk Walk Walk some more, the more you move the better you feel.
I never have missed the old foods. I eat all my proteins and veggies!
Infact I still never want to eat, but I eat to live and not live to eat!
It's been a wondeful journey.
I wish you the luck I had!!!

Everyone is different - each of us comes with our own health problems going
into surgery - so what one experiences another won't. Feel free to read my
surgery page. I went into surgery but had to have a bowel rection and
removal of adhensions prior to the actual Bariatric surgery - so my stay
was longer and more complicated. After being home for almost 3 days, I was
readmitted due to Pulmonary Embolis from Deep Vein Thrombosis in my leg. I
had to have a Greenfield Filter put in at that point. My heart was put into
so much stress - I now have to see a Cardiologist until it repairs itself -
I have to take 5 additional meds because of this. So you see - some people
can go in and come home in 4 days and others have problems. Even with my
problems - I'd have it again. I've lost 42 lbs so far - that about 1/3 of
the way. God Bless!

(AAAHH! Sorry about that...hit the enter key.) Anyhoo...My husband and I
both had distal RNY procedures performed on March 17, 2003, and would do it
all over in a heartbeat! It has been wonderful watching the scale drop and
throwing away prescription medications for such things as Type II Diabetes.
Please check out our profile. Of course complications can happen to
anyone, but for the minor complications and inconveniences adjusting to
life after surgery, it has been truly a life-saving event for us! Best of
luck with your surgery!
