Question:
Help, any idea how to get past 5 year requirement of MMOH?

Help, I'm 5'3 256lbs bmi of 45.3, am 37 years old with emphysema, gerd, high blood pressure, peptic ulcer disease, diagnosed sleep apnea, and stress incontinence. The problems is that during late 1998 early-1999 hubby & I were separated and I started going to the ywca, dieting and lost 50lbs. So unforunately I have not been 100+lbs overweight for 5 years straight in a row. Does anyone that has Medical Mutual of Ohio, know how to get past this. You'd think they'd approve on co-morbidities alone. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.    — Anita L. (posted on May 14, 2003)

Can you prove you were overweight for a longer period of time than five years? How about 5 straight years before that temporary weight loss? If so I would think that you could make a great case for yourself with some really good documentation & as many letters of medical necessity as you can get.

MMOH requires the 5 year proof from your medical records. Is it possible that you did not go to the doctor during the time you had lost the 50 lbs? I'd check with your medical records and see what they say. For myself, it was the same situation. It's just that since my medical records did not indicate that weight loss, it wasn't an issue.
