Question:
#*#*# AM I IN BIG TROUBLE ?? PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!! #*#*#
I have scheduled consultations with a couple surgeons in June/July. My insurance will not be informed of my plans for WLS until AFTER i see the doctors and they send their reports. However, i think i'm kinda in a pickle. U see, i have always lied about my weight when asked [am i the only one? ;o)] When applying for a new drivers license i told the lady at the DMV that i was 160# (i was 200+). And when i applied for insurance LAST YEAR i wrote 200# (i was 240+). Now i'm 270#. I had no intention of going for WLS then so i never thought it would be a problem. The way i rationalized it was "I *am* gonna loose wt before anyone even asks.". Needless to say that did NOT happen and i GAINED wt. My Q is, could the insurance company deny me the WLS saying that i "lied" in the application? I swear i had no intent on misleading ayone. Like i said, I did not even plan to have WLS at the time. And when ur as heavy as i am, u get used to undersating your wt when asked. Am i in trouble ?? PLEASE HELP (i'm begging). I don't know what to do !!! :o( — Laura R. (posted on May 10, 2003)

Laura, I think this is something a lot of people do and no need to worry
about it. I really don't think it will have any repercussions. Relax, No
two scales weigh alike!

NOT to agree with you that its 'right' to lie to obtain insurance..... BUT
if you lied and said "240" and your now 270... I dont think that
would raise a 'red flag' with the insurance company.. IT IS POSSIBLE... I
KNOW to gain 30 pounds fast... and if you got insurance at 240; I dont
belive 'weight' was ever an issue with the company in the first place.
Otherwise you would have heard or been denied.

If you weren't weighed by the insurance company, you don't have anything to
worry about. I said I was 210, and was actually 250, and I still got the
insurance, but I pay a higher premium. I would think that LOTS of us lie
about our weight! Heck, I lied to myself for years! My driver's license
says 140! Who the heck ever thought I weighed that??? LOL! I just had it
renewed and I weighed about 196 at the time. The lady at the DMV asked if
my weight or height had changed. I said, "Yes. I'm taller AND
thinner". LOL! She left both the height and weight the same. ;) I
doubt it will be an issue for you. You'll be fine!

You are not in any trouble! Good luck on getting approved! One of my
goals is to weigh what my driver's license says I weigh.LOL! I would
venture to guess that more people than not lie about their weight on any
application that asks for it. DON'T WORRY!

hey don't get worryed about that. I weighed 265lb and my insurance payed
for everything. I now weigh in at 164lb and am 7 months out. Look we all
weighed different amounts now then last summer I weighed 329lb and lost
allot on atkins but couldn't loose any farther than 265lb. It frustrateing
when your consently dieting your self to death. I would worry. But one
question " My insurace required that i was at least 100lb over weight
for at least 5-10years. " I was unfortanly heavy for a long time and i
developed high blood pressure in results of it.

Don't worry about it. They cannot prove that you didn't just gain the
weight or how long you have been at a certain weight. They have no idea
about a persons weight unless you are going in to see them all the time how
could they tell.
