Question:
I would like to hear WLS success storiesfrom 400#+ Heavy Weight's
There was another questions posted about WLS stories from light weights. I would like to hear success stories from the other end of the scale. I started at 6'& 477#. What can I expect? Kim Kimball 02/04/03 -60# so far! — Kimberly K. (posted on April 11, 2003)

I am 6'0. I was 455.5 with a BMI of 61.8 when I had surgery on 12/6/01.
As of today, I weigh 233.5 with a BMI of 31.6. I've lost 222 lbs and my
BMI is half of what it was when I started. I continue to lose 1-2 lbs per
week.

Kim...I was operated on 7/17/02 and weighed 427 pounds. At my last
weigh-in on 4/1, I weighed 260 pounds - a loss of 167 pounds. Please
check out my profile for details. You can expect to lose at a greater
rate than the lightweights, but they have a better likelihood of getting
down to the ideal weight as defined by those pesky insurance companies...JR

Kim, I'm not a long term post-op yet but I am 5'9 and was 442 lbs on
January 16th of this year and as of Wed. this week 370, for a total loss of
72 lbs. I had surgery on Feb 3rd. We are almost surgery sisters!

I lost 21 lbs in the two weeks before surgery because my surgeon
puts us on a protein and veggie diet to shrink our livers and I've lost 52
since surgery. So you are a little bit ahead of me! I consider myself a
great success for where I am at. I have been a slower steady loser, no
great big jumps, other than the week I had diarrhea (11 lbs in 4 days), but
lets not go back there.

You have done great so far and will continue to. I was able to
lose 200 lbs in 13 months before, back in 94/95, on 1200 calories and tons
of exercise, so I know at least 200 lbs is doable again, only this time I
will have my little tool to work with to help me keep it in check and not
gain it back. I know it will always be a struggle, but I truly believe
with the small pouch it will be less of a struggle in that I won't be up 50
lbs before I realize there is a problem. Hopefully my pouch will scream at
me if I start eating too much or crappy foods. Learning to work with our
tool will be a lifelong committment but it's one challenge I am up for.
It's supporting me great right now and I hope to pay it back 1000 fold some
day by being a great success at keeping my weight in check! Chris

My pre-op weight was 670 pounds and I am 6'10". My pre-op BMI was
over 71. My RNY was performed 2/23/01 and I have lost a total of 445
pounds. I am now at 225 pounds with a BMI of about 23. It took me about
17 months to lose the majority of the weight, and I have been maintaining
for the last 5 - 6 months. I feel wonderful - this is the best choice I
ever made. I am sure you can be just as successful if you stick to the
plan. Good luck!

Hello! I'm 12 months out medial RNY. My startimg weight was 408 lbs at
5'5" and now I'm 243--that's down a total of 165 lbs!!!!! I still
have about 50-74 more to go but that's okay! My life is so full now! I
just spent 3 hours at the Zoo with my 2 1/2 yr old and I'm not the
slightest bit tired from the running around with her! I have a ton of
excess skin that will be removed in about two years but I can hide it for
now! I was a tight 34W and now I can wear an 18 in most things!
