Question:
Has anyone tried the Nuvaring

My surgery is scheduled for 5/8/03 and I have taken tri-levlin birth control pills for 10 years without any problems. I am concerned about the pill absorbtion rate after surgery and I am looking at the nuvaring instead. I don't want the IUD and still weight too much for the patch. Does anyone have any feedback on this?    — natjemison (posted on April 3, 2003)

Hello, I wanted to tell you about my experience. I went to my OBGYN with the same concern and she suggested depo-provera (an injection given every 3 months)as the best alternative for me. have you considered that? Some people say it can cause weight gain (as with any form of BC)I mentioned this to my surgeon and he just laughed and said, I'd like to see any BC counteract RNY. NOT possible. Anyway, I'm babbling. OBGYN also said that depo would be great because it has no estrogen, only progestrin. The more estrogen in bc the higher your chances for blood clots in surgery (so I was told). Anyway, that's what's been working for me, so I thought I would share. BTW- I havent had a 'real' period in 9 months, just some very minor spotting once in a while. Can you say 'Heaven'?

Depo is what my surgeon reccomends as well but a few of the women I know post op have had endless bleeding at least for the first few months. I am very lucky that my very supportive husband just got a vasectomy!!! Yeehaa!

I know you said that you do not want the IUD...but I will tell you that I had an IUD for 3 years (until my husband got a vasectomy) and loved every single minute of it. It was no stress. Also, it has no effect on fertility should you decide to get pregnant later down the road. Depo has been known to make it more difficult to conceive and has even been linked to infertility in several studies. You know yourself better than anyone though, best of luck on your decision.

Hi there!I work for an OBGYN and DepoProvera is a great form of birth control, however it causes weight gain and depression and since we(losers) after surgery are already prone to depression,I chose Nuvaring it was a great choice for me,Its easy to insert and you have no idea its there, i have no side effects yet i had my surgery FEB 5th and using it still! Good luck!!!!!
