Question:
17 Days Post Op, Always Hungry, Never Full. Please advise
My doc has me on the shakes, pudding, yogurt, and creamed soups. I am drinking my water, but feel true hunger A LOT and never feel full. Is this normal? I do thank God that I am not nauseated or vomiting. — Rebecca H. (posted on March 16, 2003)

I am five weeks out and I also feel true hunger and never feel full. When
I feel hungry, which really isnt often and think i want something to eat,
when I get it, i don't want it. And I asked my surgeon why I never feel
full and he said that feeling would eventually come. Meantime, I just
measure what I am supposed to have and stop.

At 17 days, you are still healing and will be for quite awhile. My doctor
was very liberal. At about 3 weeks I graduated to solid foods. You won't be
able to eat much then. You will fill up very quickly.
I love tomato juice, soups etc, but the real protein comes from the solid
foods. My doctor never prescribed shakes. His belief is "if you can
tolerate it, you can eat it." But you have to be careful. If you eat
too fast, the pain will be excruciating. If you eat sweet things too fast,
you will dump.
Five months out here and down 92. It will work for you. Good luck. You are
free to email at [email protected].

Hi Rebecca. For my first month post op, I was worried too. I was hungry a
lot, I could eat more than everyone else here talks about and I never got
sick. I'm happy to say that at about1 month, the hunger stopped. I can't
say I get real full now when I eat but my body knows when to stop and I do
feel satisfied. All the best to you. 1-15-03, Open RNY 267/221.
