Question:
Where do you buy your detour bars??
I am looking for them locally. Does GNC carry them? Wendy — Wendy H. (posted on March 12, 2003)

You can order them from vitalady.com.

Cheapest place I've found? Vitaglo.com. I think a box of 12, including
shipping comes to about $25. Shipping is free if your order is over $50, I
think. They've also got the Atkins bars there for MUCH less than any
store.

Wendy - some, but not all, of the GNC carry them. These bars have been so
popular that Next Proteins is having trouble keeping up with demand. Some
of your non-brand-name health-food stores or nutrition stores may carry
them as well. I think some others have said that Walmart and Target
stores carry them. Ordering online like the previous posters suggested is
OK too - especially if you are ordering enough stuff to get free shipping.
<p>
If you haven't tried the Detour bars yet, then buy *one* bar first and try
it. 90-95% of the people that I have talked to have liked them, but you
may be one of those 5-10%. There is also a new bar put out by the same
people that is called a U-Turn bar - no peanuts in this one - it's supposed
to taste like a Milky Way. I don't know about that *G*, but it is pretty
good for a protein bar (remember these are supposed to be nutritional
supplements - not candy)...JR

Wendy, John is right...not all GNC's carry the Detour Bars. I think it
depends on whether they are corporate or franchisee. The franchisee's seem
to have a harder time getting them. My local store doesn't have them yet
but I found them in a larger shopping mall an hour from me. Tried one. They
are quite tasty. However I think the peanuts bothered me, my belly ached
for awhile afterward. Peanuts do bother me, which is strange since cashews,
pecans, almonds etc. don't bother me at all. I am going to hunt for those
UTurn bars someones mentioned!

Try www.vitaglo.com. They have free shipping on order over $50 - I bought
3 boxes, which averaged out to about $1.91 each.

The Detour bars are being repackaged because of incorrect nutritional
information. They have 30 more calories, 1 less gram of fat, and 3 MORE
grams of sugar than originally thought. This came from the company that
makes them and is not a rumor, a personal friend of mine talked to someone
at the company and was given the information. They said that is one of the
reasons it's hard to get them now because they aren't getting new ones in
yet with the new packaging. Just be careful so that you don't build up a
sugar tolerance by eating them.

I buy both bars at Nutri Sport:
Even with the additional calories, since I can only eat 1/4-1/3 of a bar at
a time, I'll take the extra sugar to have a protein bar that is tolerable.
