Question:
Will losing weight before surgery effect my weight lose after surgery

I have lost 60 lbs pre-op (BMI still 50). Will losing this much before surgery make my inital weight lose after surgery any slower or not as great?    — jerzeygirl71 (posted on September 4, 2002)

My guess is it won't bother your post surgery weight loss at all. Congraduations on being a "loser" before surgery! I was too although no where near your amount. I lost around 14 pounds the month before surgery. It was'nt required, and it certainly was'nt planned. But hey, every pounds helps. ;)

As we chronic dieters know, the first 10-25 lbs. of weight always seems to "fall off" and, it's only after that, that dieting becomes HARD. It's probably because this first 10-25 lbs. is mostly water weight! I believe, if you diet before surgery, your loss after surgery may not be as dramatic as those who pigged out right before surgery and gained 25 lbs. or something. Seems like common sense to me.
