Question:
I WORK NIGHTS, 16 HOUR SHIFTS. I FIND THAT SOMETIMES MY ....
calorie intake is up to 1600 - 1800 calories. I am 9 months post-op. What I'm wondering is, is this an excessive amount when my days last a routine of 18 hours. My weight loss has really slowed. I've lost 112 lbs, and am about 35 to 40 lbs from goal. — denaa (posted on July 25, 2002)

In your post you stated, "when my days last a routine of 18
hours", is this your job? Perhaps the job is stressing you out and
you're eating to relieve some of this? Perhaps, you could keep a food
journal on everything you put into your mouth, try to go back to the good
stuff, protein, veggies and fruits. Get rid of the stuff that makes you
graze- for me that would have been crackers, so I don't have them around.
What you did when you first had the surgery might be the way to go now.
Find other outlets. If your job is the cause, maybe looking for another
job might help, good luck!

You might want to check with your doctor. That sounds like a lot of
calories for someone who only has 40 more pounds to lose. I am not an
expert, but I would be willing to bet you should be on 1500. Also, are you
eating your protien first? It fills you up faster and stays with you
longer. Try using the KetoStix and see if you are still losing. If you
are, great, if not increase the protien and water and see what happens.
Good Luck.

Hi There. I am a yr post op and eat around 1800 a day as well. I work a
full time desk job but walk for about a half hour at a pretty good pace
4-5X a week and I can tell you that I am still loosing...but painfully
slow. I've been trying today to re-evaluate my food choices. I am a carb
addict!! I think I'm going to take the previous posters advice and try to
get it back down to 1500 with protein first. I just have to brain storm as
to good *easy* protein choices....carbs are soooo easy to obtain. Protein
always takes a lot of thought and effort in my opinion (I loathe the
shakes...every single one of them...and I've tried them all)I have about 30
more lbs to go...so I'll be watching for anymore info on this subject as
well. Good luck! -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -119
