Question:
I am considering joining my local YMCA, can anyone give me some info?

I really want to take a water aerobics class and maybe some yoga. I am a new postie so I don't wanna overdo it. I've never done anything with the YMCA so I don't know how it works at all. Do you become a member and pay one price for everything or per class? about how much does it cost? Anyone have a good experience with them? I'm in Oklahoma but want to hear from anyone.    — LaKeAffy (posted on July 15, 2002)

Hi, I am going to join my local Y. I'm in Los angeles, so the prices may be different. Here, it's 100.00 to register and 39.00 a month. No contract, month to month. They have all kinds of classes, a pool, even a massage therapist. Your best bet may be to go to the YMCA website in your town. Good Luck

You are on the right track.I have been a member of the ymca for the pass 4 years and I LOVE IT.Iam 55 years old and had my surgery nov.5,2001.Ihave lost 128 pounds so far.The water arobics is wonderful, especially if you have arthritis like I do. The water arobics and hot spa is all I CAN DO BUT i do it for 2 hour 2 times a week.I LIVE 25 MILES FROM IT SO CAN'T AFORD TO MANY TRIPS, BUT WISH WE HAD ONE IN OUR SMALL TOWN.I BECAME A MEMBER i paid one time payment of $50.00 PLUS THEY DRAW 36.00 A MONTH OUT OF MY ACOUNT FOR MEMBERSHIP. The class cost me$10.00 a month which I PAY MONTHLY.so right now i'm paying $46.00 to be able to go anywhere in the buiding .THEY DO HAVE DIFFERENT PLANS.If you are a teacher you get discounts. Some people just pay $25.00 a month for just the arobic class only. You just need to go and talk to them and they will show you what is best for you. I have a instructor who is 75 and does 3 classes a day.she don;t look more than 45.She is a really good instructor.never bored she kweeps us on our toes.good luck hope this helped you in some way. please go for it you will never regret it. Hi, my whole family is a member of our local YMCA. We pay 45.00 a month for a family membership. This includes the aerobics classes, water aerobics, use of any equipment, pools. I go once a week to water aerobics and 2 times a week to swim laps. I am starting next week with a personal trainer to demonstrate proper use of all the equip. This is an extra charge - but my doctor has a plan set up with the YMCA for personal trainer after surgery for eight weeks which is $75.00 for all eight weeks. This is helpful because she is familiar with working with post-op gastric bypass clients and helps you set up your own workout. Check out your local Y they usually give tours at the facility. At our Y the only classes that are extra charge are the ones they bring an outside instructer in for like - kickboxing or karate.

I have been a memeber at YMCA's since I was a kid. The prices are different depending on where you go. some classes are included in the membership price and some are additional but at a lower cost to members. I am two months post op and started swimming again the last couple of weeks. It has been great and really speeded up the pounds coming off again.
