Question:
I am 11 wks post op and have lost 46# but its coming off slowly....
I am careful about what I eat but in same breath feel like I'm able to eat more than wks ago. About 1 cup/meal or 3/4 of a tuna sandwich with lettuce, etc. I drink about 64-80 oz of water a day, go to Curves 3-4 times a week. I am 51...does age have anything to do with how quickly you lose the weight. So many others are losing more quickly than I am and I want to make sure I'm doing all I can do. Please let me know your thoughts. Many thanks. — AJC750 (posted on June 17, 2002)

Andrea, part of it depends on how much you have to lose. Those with less
to lose often lose slower than those that have alot to lose. I was at
about the same # of pounds as you are now at 12 weeks post-op. At 17 weeks
post-op, I am at -60, not fast by any means, but that is OK with me. I'll
take it. Your doing great on water and exercise, and I don't think age has
anything to do with it, altho it does have something to do with the
elasticity of the skin and whether you will have that hanging skin when its
all off. As for what your eating, sounds about right, altho you'll see
that some are eating just a few ounces at 3 months out. Your doctor is the
best guide for how much you should be eating. Are you concentrating on
protein, keeping the carbs low? If so, just accept how your body loses
weight and keep up the good work with exercise!

Andrea, for what it's worth: I'm in the slow-losing category, too. I see
lots of other folks who are losing more quickly than I am... and it's
frustrating. Sounds like you're already doing all the right things...
guess we just need to keep on going, huh? Best wishes to you...

Just to let you know, I am a slow loser as well. I am 10 wks post-op and
lost 50 lbs. I wish it was faster. Seems so slow that it's not easy to
even notice a difference. But I figure that this time next year, I'll have
lost all the weight anyway. Good luck

I am loosing slowly too, but steadily. I am 6 months out and have lost 65
pounds. My Doctor is pleased with the results so far, although I get
frustrated because everyone else is loosing faster. Grrrrrrr I a
diabetic and 46. My doctor explained to me that being diabetic makes me
more insulin resistant and my body is going to try to hold on to the fat
harder. Also being older doesnt help...but I feel 21... Just hang in
there. I know that I feel 100% better than I did before surgery, and I am
off all my diabetic medications and my kidneys are now functioning
properly. This surgery saved my life. Hugs
