Question:
Micropouch Information?
I asked this before but cannot find the link to the answers or the question. I'd just like to hear from a few people regarding the Sapala/Wood Micropouch. I'd like to know how you are doing, any complications, any helpful hints, any other comments. My major question though, is this, are you still hungry? I fear that I will have this done only to not lose the weight or the GERD. Or even if I do, I fear that I will still be hungry all the time like now. I have always been heavy, but have only always been hungry since I quit smoking a year ago. Now, I am even hungry when I am eating. It is really hard to stay away from food when you are always hungry. If this surgery doesn't work, I fear I will start smoking again, because I was NEVER hungry when I smoked. I was still heavy (although not this heavy), but I was able to diet sooo much easier! — Patricia H. (posted on April 16, 2002)

REST ASSURED YOU WILL FEEL FULL!!
i TOO WAS ALWAYS HUNGRY, I NEVER IMAGINED HOW SATISFIED I WOULD FEEL ON SO
LITTLE TO EAT, YOUR SENSE OF FULLNESS COMES FROM THE ABSORPTION OF
CALORIES IN YOUR SMALL INTESTINE, WHEN MY POUCH FILLS, AND I START
ABSORBING CALORIES I GET AN OVERWHELMING SENSE OF FULLNESS, AND I CAN BE
ENJOYING EATING AND BE SOOOOOO FULL IN AN INSTANT, SO FULL THAT IF I TAKE
ANOTHER BITE I JUST KNOW I WILL BE SICK, BELIEVE ME, I HAVE NEVER, NEVER
FELT THIS WAY, I COULD REALLY EAT ALOT, NOT THE CASE ANYMORE!!! THANK GOD!

I am waiting for a date but I can hardly wait to have Dr Sapala do my
surgery. I think this is the best surgery for me... I do not want to lose
weight and still have to worry about putting it back on again. Good luck on
your decision!

Hello! I had Dr. Wood do my micropouch and I can't say enough good about
him. The staff was wonderful, he is wonderful and I'm down 66 pounds in 2.5
months. :) I had really bad acid reflux prior to surgery and now I have
absolutely NONE. :-) You'll be too busy loving your new *thin* life to
smoke! Be kind to your lungs! :-)

1. What is the Sapala-Wood MicropouchTM procedure?
The Sapala-Wood MicropouchTM procedure is the result of lessons learned
over the past 17 years in several thousand bariatric patients. It is an
operation in which the stomach is reduced to the size of the gastric
cardia.
The cardia is durable and does not stretch over time.1 The cardia also
contains very few parietal cells, so patients with GERD are virtually cured
of their acid reflux symptoms.2
The bottom of the stomach still has its vagal innervation. Consequently,
acid production in the cephalic phase of gastric acid secretion is intact
as well as normal gastric emptying.3
