There are many others that have more knowledge on this topic, but I will
tell you what I have learned from this site. If you don't have your
stomach transected, and they use the staples, there is a chance that there
will be a disruption. The tissue rejects the foreign body (staples) and in
turn cause the weight gain. The only way to ensure this not to happen is
to have your stomach transected. That way the lower part of the stomach is
cut away and moved, and the pouch heals together. You do risk a leak with
the transection, but a very small percentage do this. There are pros and
cons with each procedure. I had the transection, and love the results.

SLD is no more a fault issue than a flat tire on your car. It's just a
mechanical failure and it's nothing you do or don't do. Nothing your doc
did or didn't do, considering what he knew at the time. As Cheri said,
transection prevents SLD. But sounds like you are already done with staple
line only? I knew when I suddenly had return of acid into my pouch. Some
people have no discomfort at all, just weight gain. And yes, weight gain
is the result, since a SLD retores your stomach to original condition, in
essence.
