Question:
It is possible to loose alot of weight with vgb?
I have read that with the vgb type of surgery that half of the people only loose half of their excess weight. I was wondering if anyone has been successful in loosing alot of their excess weight. I want to have wls and this is the only type offered in my area, and I don't want to make such a huge commitment and not loose much weight. — Dawn B. (posted on January 12, 2002)

Hi, I am hoping to have the DS, but my first consideration was the VBG.
Malabsorbtion was a little scary (still is), but after looking at a lot of
stats, I decided I personally needed a malabsorbtive procedure. That and I
figure, if I'm going under the knife, I might as well give myself better
odds. This is not to say that VBG works for no one, I've just heard so
much that it has a lesser success rate than RNY or DS. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Dawn, I had the VBG in 1991 and lost 170 pounds in one year. It was
very successful, but I learned how to overeat it with my eating problems
and gained it all back. You see the stomach is still attached and the food
from the pouch goes into the stomach and absorbs normally. My problem came
when I couldnt eat enough of the foods I wanted at the time so then I
started eating sugar and carbs... LOTS of carbs... and sure enough I gained
it all back including 40 more pounds. Nov 15th, 2001 I had a revision to
the RNY.. I say go for it.. I just want you to know that is requires
discipline.... That I did not have!!!! Good luck!

YES! The successes with VBG are the same as with RNY, or any WLS - as long
as you USE the tool correctly.....You will find accurate and unbiased info
about VBG, along with hundreds of successful VBG'ers, at the
www.yahoogroups.com, VBG list....
(I had my VBG 7 months ago Friday - and I have lost 121 lbs)
