My surgeon handled the approval process. I didn't have to do
a thing. I went for the consult, he said I was a perfect candidate
for wls, we discussed types and agreed that rny seemed best for me,
his office submitted the paperworkd....and....two weeks later called
me with a date for the surgery. It worked the same way for my two pals
who had their rny's in June.

If you call the number on your card, you just get customer service, who
usually don't know too much, if anything! :) Im terrible... so what I did
was ask to speak with the pre-certification department, often called
pre-authorization or pre-determination, depending on your company. They can
give you your case number to reference next time you call and a direct
telephone line for them for future use. Good Luck!

My surgeon's office also handled all the dealings with the insurance
company. My suggestion is that you let them handle it. After all, they
have the experience in dealing with the insurance companies and are the
experts.
