Question:
I have 2 questions
1. I have a hard time breathing from my left nostril will this effect the NG tube..i mean feeling "smothered"? and 2. I am on procardia which is a time released med. I read where time release meds are not good for WLS patients..so do i ask my DR NOW if she could prescribe something different for after surgery or wait and see what happens? They are about the size of an M&M. thanks, jacki — Jackiis (posted on October 31, 2001)

With your time released meds, they soemtiems do have complications in
post-op patients because of the mal-absorbtion issue. Depending on who's
overseeing your care in the hospital they will probably write the scripts
and give you med options for post-op care. It wouldn't hurt to run it past
your PCP though, and get his/her oppinion on what might work post-op and
you can discuss this with the releasing physician if it's different.

Ugh, the NG tube. Ask your Doc. Mine was huge - a little bigger than a
round-sized pencil. It bothered me MUCH more than the incision the first
day. Coming out wasn't bad that I remember, I was pretty heavily on
painkllers then. My MIL, a nurse said she had never seem such a big NG
tube. It bothered me immensly, I can't believe others had one a coffee
stirrer size - I know if I need one again I will ask about a SMALL one.

I was worried sick about getting the NG tube. But I never got it. Instead
there was a little hole about the size of a pencil erraser that was right
next to my incision. That was where my draining tube was. Perhaps you will
be fortunate and have yours there as well.
