Hello. This is a very frequently asked question. You may want to take a
look at the archives as there is much discussion on the 2 procedures. Also
lots of DS recipients recommend going to www.duodenalswitch.com. Good
luck!

There are big differences between the surgeries. There is a ton of info on
this site as well as others. You can go to,
http://www.duodenalswitch.com/Procedure/DS_vs__RNY/ds_vs__rny.html, to read
some views on RNY vs. DS. As far as insurance goes, as with RNY, some
approve, some don't. It depends on your specific policy. There are many
HMO's that have approved the DS--some are Lifeguard, Health Net, Maxicare.
Do a search on this sight under insurers and you can email people who have
been approved with their HMO's. Though the list of DS surgeons is growning
everyday, at the present, there are no surgeon's in AZ who perform the DS.
I've known quite a few people who have traveled form AZ to Delano, CA to
have surgery with Dr. Keshishian (http://www.gr-ds.com). For a complete
list of DS surgeons world-wide, check the DS website at:
http://www.duodenalswitch.com/Surgeons/surgeons.html. Good luck to you!
