Question:
Does one lose more weight with distal RNY?
I've been reading about people that have acheieved their goal weight, and most of them have had a distal procedure. Ive always thought it was simply easier to maintain with a distal, but that you can lose as much weight with either of them. Is that correct? I sure hope so, i have surgery scheduledfor Tuesday! Like all things, your mileage may vary. I had vertical banded
gastroplasty. I met a wonderful friend here in the chat room who had a
distal RNY one day before my surgery. We both started at similar heights
and weights. Our losses have been within 5 to 10 pounds of each other
pretty much the entire time. At 14 months post op, we're both very close
to goal weight. It just depends on how it works for you, sometimes
procedure type will make a huge difference, sometimes, not.

I am very distal. Most of my peers are still at goal wt or very close at
7,8,9 years out, as long as they've stayed on track. Unfortunately, my
view is somewhat skewed as I tend to see a lot of people who are here to be
revised from another procedure, either due to mechanical failure or it
being the wrong procedure from them. I know you only have days left, but
if you can find some folks who are 3+ years out from various procdures,
maybe that will give you your answers.
