I'm 53 & had an open rny 3/19/01. The day of surgery I was 270. I have
lost 60# & never felt better. Wish this was an option for me yrs. ago.
GOOD LUCK!

I am 46 and had lap rny on 4-27-01. I also have several comorbidities (see
my profile for details). I have been pleasantly surprised at how well
things are going and how much better I am feeling. If you want to chat,
please feel free to email me at [email protected].

HA! I gave myself the RNY open to myself for my 54th birthday. It's the
best present I've ever given myself. I had my surgery Jan. 8 and have lost
65.5 lbs. and feel great! I'd do this again in a split second. GO FOR IT!!!
The only thing you will regret is not doing it sooner! Good luck!

I will be 50 in a few weeks. WLS was my birthday gift to myself. I had
surgery on 4/13/01 and seem to be right on track with my recovery. I've
lost 42 lbs (forever) and I'm not looking back. Like the others have said,
your only regret will be not doing it sooner. Good Luck

I am preop and will be 55 this year. I do not think I am "old"
and have striken that word from my vocabulary in reference to myself.....I
just say I am "chronologically gifted". When I had my evaluation
with my surgeon I asked him if I was "too chronoliogically
gifted" to get insurance approval. He said that was the best comment
he had heard in a long time!

I'm 46, I think my BMI was 47 or 49. I had surgery on 1/24/01. So far, 81
pounds gone forever! I felt fine, I had laprascopic, didn't need pain meds
at all, not even when I came out of surgery. I did need some anti-nausea
medication for two days. I never filled the pain med prescription the
surgeon sent me home with. I asked to go back to work after one week and
was released. I really don't think age is the main factor, I've seen
younger people have more problems. It just depends on the person, I guess.
Good luck! ([email protected])
