Question:
I need some ideas on what to eat (I should say drink) this first 3 weeks.

My nutritionist had originally said soft food, like yogurt, sugar free
jello, broth, soup, etc. However, at the ASBS conference, they talked
about how we lose so rapidly in the first few weeks and are losing a lot of
lean muscle mass. Many of the nutritionists there talked about encouraging
patients to try protein supplements for the first two weeks. Their
reasoning is that our insides are so swollen that we won't be able to get
enough protein from what little soft food we eat. So, following her
advice, I'm going to do a liquid diet and try to get in 20g of protein
every 3-4 hours. I have bought Extreme Pure Pro (not liking it much yet,
but tastes change as a post op), Isopure, and a vanilla whey protein
powder. My nutritionist also has a form for ordering chicken broth that
has 15g of protein per serving. I'm going to try it and see how I do. I'll
let everyone know in the days following my surgery on June 21.
