Question:
Has anyone had problems with acne?
I am 49 years old and feel like I am going through puberty. My acne is worst now than when I was a teenager. Has anyone else experienced this problem? My surgery was 1/15/01, Lap RNY and I am down 63 pounds. — marlene R. (posted on May 29, 2001)

Perhaps have your hormones checked out.. I had quite an acne problem start
when my hormones fluctuated so much.. and find even w/ hormone replacement
therapy it got worse.. took me some time to get my hormones regulated after
my hysterectomy. Any major surgery can mess w/ hormones but weightloss
does as well as I understand hormones are stored in fat and go through soem
major shifting and loss during major weightloss.

I had my surgery 1/24/01, and immediately after my skin cleared up and was
great for about a month. Then I started having terrible breakouts. I never
had acne as a teen so I went to my dermatologist. He gave me a topical
solution and said that if that did not help I would need to take and oral
antibiotic. I ended up taking some left over antibiotics I had, for a week,
just to speed up the process. It has been a month since I quit the
antibiotics and my skin is good again. I still use the topical medication
which is just like a strong astringent. I put it on my clean skin in the
morning and can even wear make up. Go to a derm and check it out. We work
too hard loosing the weight to feel embarrased over our skin.
Good Luck.
