Question:
Can someone explain dumping in layman's terms? Causes? Effects?

Would appreciate any replies to the above question. I have read a lot about it and was discussed at my first pre-op visit on 5/25, but I am unsure what it is exactly.    — khelms (posted on May 26, 2001)

Thanks Barb I love this description: "Dumping is like having a personal food cop with you so you cant hide in your little closet and eat like you did pre op" When I reached my goal weight the other day I wanted to celebrate so I ate two tiny bites of cheesecake with strawberries glaze on top (bad choice) I should have went for a new pair of shoes instead ... Right after eating those two bites I went to Hobby Lobby to buy Memorial Flowers at 1/2 off.. That's when the cop came out and clubbed me good.. I got cold sweats, clammy flu like feeling, very nauseous, weak in the knees, stomach cramps..oman I never EVER want to see a cheesecake again unless it's sugar free of course :) This is why I anted this surgery I knew I needed help I knew I needed a tool to control my eating, being able to eat like I did before surgery was NOT an option for me. The pouch control the quality I eat and I know now even at 16 months post-op that I have the tools in place to stay at my goal weight for ever :)...Got to love this surgery :)

It sucks bigtime....! I have had two episodes since my surgery on May 21st. One right in the hospital when the technican who was filming my pouch as it filled to check for leaks gave me a partical glass of clear water after. I said am I suppose to drink this? He replied "OH yes, we do these all the time!" Well dumb me, I hadn't had even a drop of water yet, so I believed him, kind of. I was then left in the hallway for someone to wheel me back to my room...OH, Yeah....did I get sick....Deep breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth was the only thing that saved me....Lonna Grell Bend Oregon
