Question:
Is it harmful, 1 week post-op, to eat a soft non pureed diet?
I am finding that even 1 weed after my surgery that the protein drinks are not satesfying. I am hungry all the time. I started on eggs and cottage cheese, but I think my body can handle some other foods. Will this be harmful to my new digestive tract this short time out? — Cindy H. (posted on May 1, 2001)

My surgeon had me on soft nonpureed foods 6 days out. I started on regular
food 8 days out. I feel wonderful!

What did your doctor tell you to be eating? My doctor said pureed foods of
any kind (except sugar or lots of fat) for six weeks. If it could go
through a straw I could have it. I made a lot of meat purees. I would put a
small can of tuna or chicken in the food processor and added some light
Miracle Whip and blended it up. This made almost like a patee. It was soft
and high in protein. You can add onions or pickles for extra flavor if you
like. I also made a smooth egg salad the same way. I still make egg salad
in the food processor, I just don't blend it as long so it still has chunks
in it.

Technically, of course, you should follow your doctor's orders. But I've
found that different doctors are all over the board on post-op eating
plans. In my case I never was on pureed foods. I went from clear liquid
to full liquids in the hospital and was sent home on a soft food diet at 4
days post-op. I have done find with that and have had very limited nausea
and no vomiting.

My Doctor had me eating solid foods before I left the hospital. I started
on eggs and then when I was discharged he said I could eat anything except
carbs and sugar.
