Question:
I am in need of HELP!!!
I am 2 years post op in May. I went to my dr about a month ago complaining of stomach pains. He at that time put me on prilosec 20mg a day. Then I started vomiting food with blood. I went back to the dr he increased the meds to 40mg a day and scheduled me for and endoscopy. The endoscopy revealed I had an ulcer in my new stomach and part of the old stomach. He then suggested I go to my surgeon. I did my surgeon is reluctant to help me. He feels that the meds should work soon. It's hell!! I am now bloated, still vomiting food and blood and in alot of pain. My regular dr increaed my meds to 80mg a day. Nothing is working. I feel lost and scared. I can't seem to get a straight answer from any of my dr's. I did not have my surgery performed by a bariatric surgeon. Now it seems no bariatric surgeon will even give me the time of day. If there is anyone out there that can offer me some advise please email me at [email protected] Thank you for your help!!! — lyn A. (posted on April 18, 2001)

RNY? How'd they see into the old stomach? It should be sealed away
totally, unless you have a staple linen disruption? It IS possible to get
an ulcer in that lower sealed unit, however, then they need to go fetch the
stomach out, because no meds can reach it. The Prilosec should be helping
the pouch ulcer, unless you have a staple line disruption, in which case
there may be too much acid. Also, Prilosec is timed release, so you may
need to go to as many as 4 of the 40's a day to get enough absorption to
help you until you can find a doc who understands this stuff.
