Question:
I get sick from protein shakes
I had my surgery on March 19 and had protein shakes when I came home and they worked fine. Now when I drink them I dump and get really sick. Is it too much for my system? Any other suggestions how I can get the protein in or maybe try another type of shake? — Gena B. (posted on March 30, 2001)

I couldn't stand the "shakes" early on either. They either made
me sick or tasted aweful. I found a protein drink that tastes like Gatorade
or juice - it's called Pure Pro and comes in a 22 oz bottle in 5 or 6
flavors. It has 40 gm of protein and doesn't taste bad. I'm not drinking it
as often anymore because I have found a protein bar that I like and it
reminds me of the old days when I used to have a candy bar (or two) for a
snack every day.

GNC has a flavorless protien power. I mix it with a couple strawberrys and
about 1 inch of bananas. It is pretty good. Keep the faith. It will get
better.I am 3months post-op down 80 lbs.

Hi Gena~ I hated the taste of the shakes that I tried. I'm having a Lap
RNY on Monday, so I have no 'dumping' experience, BUT please, check out
Vitalady.com. She sells a powder called Extreme Pure Pro. The grape
flavor is AWESOME! No protien/vitaminey taste at all! She also sells
sample packs to give it a try before you buy a 2 lb. container. It is BY
FAR the best drink I've found, and I will stick with it IF it agrees with
me after Monday!!!!!! Good Luck!

Wow... was I glad to see your post! I got sick too, and my tongue
blistered from the dry nonfat milk...in fact I think it caused
"thrush".
It's been a protein frenzy for me since surgery on 4/25. I bought the
Designer Protein in French Vanilla and was surprised that it didnt taste
like Herbalife. :)
You can mix it with milk, ice and a banana or some papaya and blend. I use
two scoops/35gms of protein. Put it in a sipper cup and carry it around. I
just broke a plateau by learning this trick! Good luck to you...I hope this
helps!
