Question:
Has anyone experienced spasms or gas pains just under the throat following RNY surgery
I am a week post op and feel pressure high up on the esophagus after every sip of liquid I take. Has anyone else felt this? please let me know. Does it get better? — Karen B. (posted on March 27, 2001)

I am 3 weeks post-op and I had the exact same feeling at 1 week. My doctor
told me it was because of all of the swelling and it would diminish. It
did. Now I only feel that way if I eat or drink too fast. The feeling of
fullness is now in a different place than before the surgery. You are
going to have to learn what feeling full is now. Keep taking in the
fluids. At one week I thought I would never want anything but Ice chips.
They were soooooo good. But eventually, I wanted that awful jello and
broth. Then after 2 weeks, I actually wanted cottage cheese. At 3 weeks
out (and 34 lbs down), I am eating soft foods. I still get the same
feeling that you described if I eat too fast. Good health to you.
