Question:
Does anyone know about pain in the left upper abdomen below breast?
I am eight weeks post op and having pain in my upper left abdomen under breast. It mostly hurts when I bend over but sometimes it just hurts. Is this pouch pain? How can I get rid of it? — Nancy C. (posted on March 25, 2001)

I am not sure what type of surgery you had, but I had an open
vbg. My doctor told me it was because they had to use the rib
spreader and that area would be sore for a few weeks, which it
was, but it did go away. But, it never hurts to talk with your
doctor, that is what they are there for.

I know that the new 'pouch' on RNY is just under your left breast. I also
know that my surgeon didn't use a rib splitter. When does it hurt with
relation to eating and drinking? It could be full, or it could be healing
pains. I had that too but it went away.

I had open RNY 5 weeks ago and still have pain under my left breast. I was
sent home with information that I may have rib pain for a bit and to take
liquid Tylenol. If your pain continues I suggest you speak with your
doctor.

I had RNY 7 months ago and still have pain in this area at times. The pain
worsens when I am nervous and sometimes when eating allowed foods. Good
Luck.

I asked my doctor about it in the hospital after the surgery and he shook
his head and told me that everyone always has the most pain in that area.
I had a LAP RNY.

I belong to another website and if I could post the postings here from left
side pain, it would fill an entire page. It is very common, I have it 10
days and fully expect it to continue, it does get better every single day.
