Question:
Has many of you suceeded past the '65%' that they say is all you will lose?

My Dr said 65% is all that will be lost for the majority of people. I'm hoping the odds are in my favor and I lose more than that.    — Renee V. (posted on March 9, 2001)

Two of my cousins, my aunt and a friend of my cousins had gastric bipasss about 15 years ago. All four women achieved their goal weight. One has JUST gained 10 lbs, the others are still at their goal weight.

I've lost 86% of my excess, and like Barb, look much smaller than my actual weight suggests. My doc also believes that if we've been morbidly obese for a great many years we develop more dense (heavier) bones. Weight loss expectations may be less with the RNY, but the DS docs tell us we'll lose 70-80% of our excess, and we do. And it doesn't come back. I was one of the forunate souls who didn't exercize or watch what I ate (although I did have to take in more protein than most DS patients) and yet still had a constant loss, no plateaus. Some people have to work a lot harder to lose than do others, even with surgery, but you can certainly better your odds by making better food choices, exercising, etc... Good luck!

I did. I've reached a BMI of 24.6 which is normal and am in the high range of what is considered normal of my height of 5'8" at 160. I can wear a size 10 jeans and can SQUEEZE into an 8 if I don't mind not being able to breath LOL! I'd like to get to 150 but I am perfectly happy if I don't lose another pound. You can do it! Good luck!

I lost 100% of my excess weight. My BMI went from 41.5 to 21.7. I haven't lost or gained a pound in 8 months, however, I am still losing inches from toning up. I went from size 26 to 8. Shopping for clothes is so fun now! Best of luck to you!!

I am just over 8 months post-op and I have already lost 79% of the 166 pounds I need to lose (for those who don't want to do the math, thats 131 pounds). I have 35 more to go to reach my "ultimate goal", but only 7 more to have a BMI in the "normal" range. I am 6'1" so I know that there is a lot of bone mass there, because yesterday I went shopping at Eddie Bauer and fit, not squeezed, FIT into a size 12 pair of chinos. I was totally stunned. When I was 17 and graduating from high school, I was 5'10" and got down to 175 pounds and wearing a 12 at that time was a stretch. Maybe they have changed the sizes, who knows! I was doing the major happy dance yesterday. Enough of my ramble......as far as I am concerned, at this weight, I AM A SUCCESS. Who cares what my doc thinks. I feel great, I look great (if I do say so myself) and I would do this all over again in a heartbeat. Good luck to you. Luv,.......
