Question:
Can anyone tell me more about leakages?
I have a close friend who is afraid she has a leakage. She was admitted the other night with a 7.8 hemoglobin she is 4 years post op, gained back most of her weight, has developed heart problems and they know she is loosing blood internally just not from where. Lower GI turned up nothing is anyone familiar with leakage? they told her they could not tell if it was for sure without going back in and seeing if she had lost staple line or if it was leaking sounds like to me they could have seen when they did the upper GI. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you all. ^j^ — emma lavonne G. (posted on March 3, 2001)

Have they done a full set of labs, including total protein & albumin?
The only way to know if she has a staple line disruption is to do a scope
(EGD). Painless, fast and sure. The Upper GI is often done, but to be
sure, they often need to follow with a scope. That would account for her wt
gain, but not lousy numbers. Did she have a transected stomach or staple
line? Does she have acid back in her pouch? Pain?
