Question:
WHY DO I GET AIR BUBBLES WHEN I LAY DOWN???

I am not able to sleep at this moment for 2 reason. #1 I have noticed for the past 2 days when I lay down to rest/or sleep at night I get alot of airbubbles, gurgling, sounds that totally anoyes me, and I am sure if it dont stop once I am back sleep with my partner it will anoye him. What is wrong/ or how to correct this??????????????. #2 I have sleep Apnea and before the surgery I was trying to get adjusted to my C-PAP machine which was ok, I could sleep most of the night with it on. But now since surgery I am having a really hard time with it maybe this also answer my question #1 I seem to have alot air in my tummy and I dont want to do any damage. and also I have the ADAMS HEADGEAR CKT, (which is like the snorkle type) seems like I am getting alot of moisture up my nose, and cause alot of dranage too. My setting is 18. I honestly cant beleive that I could go off my C-PAP this soon since I am now 11 days post-ops???? If anyone can help with either question it will be deeply appreciated, thanks.Jay Biller    — jay B. (posted on January 26, 2001)

Hi, I thought that was just hunger and my stomach growling! My "bubbles" noise is not so loud and I have found if I drink some water it stops. I keep a little pitcher of water by the bed at night. Jay, I am in no way trying to tell you to stop using your cpap but I found that I couldn't sleep with mine after surgery. I haven't used it since. It actually woke me up when it reached the full volume. Maybe yours needs recalibrated. Maybe you don't need a setting of 18 now. One thing to be aware of: If you are still using any type of pain meds, be very careful not to over medicate and override your brain stem's ability to wake you up if you stop breathing! I have only used 1/2 a dose of my pain med for this reason.....just in case I still have sleep apnea. I have lost 43 lbs and I taped myself for over an hour sleeping with a small tape recorder. I listened closely for pauses in breathing, gasping, or snoring and there was only quiet. I can't believe I am completely cured either. In order to know for sure we need to be retested in the sleep lab. The doctor there assured me that we couldn't fill our tummies with air that it goes to the lungs. I wish you luck and happiness!

Marilyn, I'm not sure which doctor told you that, but, yes, you can swallow air. Jay, there's an article about the stomach that might interest you. Although it focuses on hunger, it mentions that when you have an empty stomach, you tend to salivate and swallow more air. It also gives more information that might be of benefit to you, regarding potential problems. Hope this helps. http://onhealth.webmd.com/conditions/in-depth/item/item%2C91637_1_1.asp
